Why is creativity needed in the ‘real’ world? Week 4

This is a post in response to a journal entry for my creativity class…

Some reasons why creativity is needed in the ‘real’ world?

Whitney Houston and so many others…arguably one of the most amazing singers but coming to an end that many artists have arrived.  There must be other ways…I’m sure people tried to reach her.  Maybe a more creative approach would have changed that…  People are more stressed…more taxed…more pressed…we are expected to do more with less time.  We need to approach life in new ways to cope with new and future challenges we will face.  We need to help our children see the beauty and fun in life…

Children need to learn how to enjoy life even when times are tough...

Our economy…

We have rigid rules and structures…

We need to create ways of working that are sustainable, safe and compassionate...

…expectations that people deserve to make millions of dollars on the back of those who labor with little responsibility of providing them a fair wage.   We as consumers want things cheaper…regardless of the impact to our neighbors.

We teach our children that they need to be #1…we need to beat out other nations, even each other… we use competition in ways that hurt and humiliate.

We value money over people and there is a growing sense of entitlement regardless of effort or impact to others.  We just want what we want…

We need to find a new path for our nation to live in ways that are humane…

We'll need to work together to find creative solutions...

where we educate and nurture the next generation to help and care for each other just as we must now.

Anything less will have disastrous outcomes…we already sense that.

We will have to find ways to encourage creativity and enterprise with expectation that we will care for our community and be responsibility for our nation.

It will take many, many creative people and leaders to change that mindset.

Our world…

It is approaching…a very dark outlook for Earth’s natural resources.

Lessening oil, limited amounts of clean water, more people, less clean, fresh air…

We creatively invented all sorts of amazing conveniences without knowing or possibly reflecting and considering the outcomes.  Now we have to match an inherited desire for comfort with the reality of the lessening resources and unknown possibilities.  What impact will this have on our children… our future?

Children are our future...their creativity will be the light that leads us away from potential darkness...

It will be up to us to encourage their creativity.  It will be their creativity that encourages our future to be brighter!
